October 3, 1977 -

The youngest Clark sibling, Hazel was born in Livingston and grew up by her father’s side during his days as Principal of Eastside High. Much like her elder brother and sister, Hazel was encouraged by her father to pursue Track & Field from a young age to instill character and build drive. After graduating from Columbia High School, Hazel accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Florida in Gainesville, where her older brother J.J. was her coach.

Hazel is considered one of the most decorated and notable collegiate track & field athletes in history, having set an NCAA meet record and earned four NCAA titles and the distinction of being the only woman to go undefeated in SEC competition.

Considered one of the strongest middle-distance front runners of her time, Hazel is a three-time Olympian and the winner of an impressive seven national titles. She also led her family’s historic Olympic Trials sweep as the 2000 Olympic Trials Champion.

In her time since retiring from the world of competitive running, Hazel has gained a vast array of experience as a sports commentator and executive, event producer, and brand ambassador. Her roles have included serving as a U.S. Sports Envoy, Executive Director of the Georgia Track Club, Coca-Cola Global Sports Marketing Associate, former Director of the Georgia Meet of Champions (GMOC), and producer of her own teen training camps. She has a diverse record of experience and accomplishments in television, coaching, health/wellness program administration, marketing and sales, and extensive national and international travel experience interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Clark has appeared in three global campaigns for Nike and appeared in instructional videos, commercials, and advertisements for Hershey and Home Depot.

Today, Hazel serves as the Director of Sports Development at the Bermuda Tourism Authority. She lives on the island with her husband, Shane McIlwain, and their daughter.
